This begins the story of Troop 290. The Troop started out in 1957 as an overflow from Troop 215 (also sponsored
by the Optimists). 725 Scouts have been in the Troop and over 200 Adults have been Leaders or Committee.
So far, 64 Scouts have achieved EAGLE. Troop 215 died sometime in the late 70's and 290 continues to survive.
The Troop has been up and down in numbers over the years. The high was 90 Scouts and we have been as low as 13.
Troop 290 is a boy-run camping oriented troop. Each month a camp trip or outdoor activity is planned.
Some of the annual events include an 80-mile canoe trip on the Namekoggan and St Croix Rivers, Summer Camp at Many Point
Scout Camp near Detroit Lakes, and a ski trip to Welch Village.
Meetings are held at the Glen Lake Activity Center (GLAC)
at Excelsior Blvd and Woodhill every Monday evening at 7 PM September to July. Contact Tom Singsank, Troop 290 Scoutmaster
at singsank@comcast.net for information on joining.
